Summer beamtime adventures

Change of guards at ISIS Neutron and Muon Source

In June, combined groups of Prof Holbrey and Dr Swadźba-Kwaśny were awarded 10 days of beamtime at SANDALS diffractometer @ ISIS Neutron and Muon Source. SANDALS is dedicated to the study of amorphous materials and liquids, and we had two studies back-to-back, studying lithium in solvate ionic liquids, and Frustrated Lewis Pairs – also in ionic liquids – as a very promissing continuation of this work, published here.

In July, we had very productive three days at B18 beamline @Diamond Light Source – our first collaborative effort with Dr Lovelock‘s group (University of Reading)! Looking at Lewis acids, Lewis bases, Lewis pairs using NEXAFS (or possibly XANES)!
